Ford; Unglued

As Rob Ford’s job as Mayor of Toronto unravels around him, he continues to believe that ‘denial’ is a river in north-eastern Africa. In spite of the serious allegations regarding the use of illegal drugs as well as his inclination to overindulge in alcohol, Ford seems to be one of those that follows the thinking of "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" Unfortunately, that is not always an effective strategy.

Even though some people may feel that he has brought dishonour to his office and has forfeited the opportunity for a less awkward exit, there are those that still support him. When you consider his alleged transgressions, they have all been, up to this point anyway, self-inflicted behaviours which some people may have been willing to overlook if he had taken a leave of absence and addressed those issues. His remaining supporters may have been far less understanding if he, like some others on the public payroll, had been discovered claiming a benefit for which he was not morally entitled to. For some people, Ford represents the underdog that they are willing to stand by. Toronto however needs a mayor that displays a responsible leadership which provides a direction that benefits everyone. Regrettably, Rob Ford can no longer deliver on that.
