Canada Post takes on the faultfinders with ease. When it
comes to the locations for the new community mailboxes, there is no shortage of
advice being offered about what Canada Post is doing wrong. While I can
understand the reluctance of some people in losing their home delivery of mail,
faced with declining revenues Canada Post must balance the books. With so many
communities already using community mailboxes, fairness suggests that everyone
should be treated the same. As far as the location goes, considering the
expected resistance factor, I am confident Canada Post has conducted the needed
research, perhaps tweaking as required, to properly rollout the transition to
community mailboxes. Let Canada Post do their job. In view of the widespread
support for this initiative, particularly as it relates to allowing Canada Post
to work toward profitability rather than an ongoing deficit, the NDP and
Liberals may be wise to stay clear of making this an election issue.
