Heart of Orleans: An Eyesore

Ottawa-Orleans is a constantly growing community. Constructed about 30 years ago, Centrum Blvd was once promoted to be a new hub for development. From the first multi-screen cinema facility in Orleans to a modern arts center, along with condos, stores, restaurants and other community services, Centrum Blvd has evolved. Unfortunately, its overall appearance has been forgotten. While I understand there are many competing priorities for the limited amount of funds allocated for road and sidewalk maintenance, Centrum Blvd has been largely ignored. Once attractive gates to welcome people are now twisted and rusted. Our winters have played havoc with the sidewalks only to be addressed with asphalt patching. Some sections of uneven sidewalks are accidents waiting to happen. Decorative bollards are no longer appealing. Look at the photos and draw your own conclusions. Better yet, if you are in the area, take a walk around and look. The Orleans town center, as originally promoted, is an eyesore.
