Quebec’s Bill 62 has created a lot of controversy in both
Quebec and the rest of Canada. The bill, which some feel is aimed at Muslim women
who opt to hide their faces, except for their eyes, was intended for
identification purposes. Those opposed to this new legislation claim the law
infringes on rights related to freedom of religion. Here’s the thing. From what
I have learned, it is my understanding that Muslim teachings state that women
should dress modestly. Fine. Covering your entire body
with clothing, expect for a peek-a-boo eye opening, goes beyond what most
people would deem as being modestly dressed.
