One Public Education System

The Ottawa Citizen’s David Reevely’s Nov. 7th commentary has resurfaced the need to have one public education system. With less overhead and duplication as well as a more efficient and cohesive administrative process the resulting product would be a more cost-effective use of financial resources. As challenging as it may be, and notwithstanding the reluctance of some politicians to get involved with a discussion that has extreme polarizing views, we must try and move toward a public education system that is void of religious teachings. Homes and places of worship is where those beliefs should be explained and practiced. Why now? To paraphrase Prime Minister’s Trudeau’s reply two years ago when asked why it was so important to have a gender-balanced cabinet, “because it’s 2017”.
