The City of Ottawa 2018 “Sunshine List” is out. The public disclosure of those earning more than $100,000 a year was introduced in Ontario in 1996 by the Mike Harris government. According to the Bank of Canada, between 1996 and 2018 the price of goods and services has increased from $100 to $150. With the increases in salaries and other compensation benefits over the past 20+ years, perhaps it is time to update the criteria used for this annual publication so that it better reflects current realities.
